Family Reunion at The Hillside Resort

Family Reunions on the Lake

The whole family. One weekend. One lake.

Friday afternoon — the kids' families pull in one at a time. Grandma settles into the Loft Cabin. Uncle Mark runs to the Sea Store across the street for ice. Saturday night, 60 of you sit down for steak upstairs at the Hillside — first time the whole family's been in one room since 2019. Sunday brunch on the patio. Done by noon. 45 minutes from Sioux Falls.

The Venue

Where it happens.

The covered pavilion seats the whole family, with lakeside decks and the dock just steps away. Picnic tables, shade, and room for every generation — kids on the water, grandparents in the shade.

Why Hillside

The hard parts of a reunion, already handled.

REASON 01

Lodging that fits every household's budget

The Loft Cabin for the grandparents. Bunkhouses for the cousins. Full-hookup RV pads for the uncle who shows up in his rig. Each family pays for their own — you don't need to subsidize anyone.

REASON 02

Something for every age, on the same property

Toddlers swim on Long Lake's no-wake side (safe, calm shore). The grandparents do the BluMana sunset cruise. The cousins disappear into the Basement Bar downstairs — pool tables, foosball, darts, life-size Connect 4. The dads grill out by the cabins. Everyone has their own thing, but lunch is together.

REASON 03

One dinner, no logistics

Reserve the Steakhouse upstairs for the Saturday-night family dinner. Hand-cut steaks, full bar, server team that's done 60-tops before. No carting food. No who-brings-what. One bill that grandma can pick up.

REASON 04

When the family needs the Sea Store run

It's across the street. Ice, beer, charcoal, bait, sunscreen, kids' snacks, whatever you need. Open early on weekend mornings. Uncle Mark already volunteered.

Questions

The things people ask first.

We've got 60 people across 8 households. Can we make it work?
That's the kind of weekend we're built for, and the honest answer is it depends on your dates — our cabin count is finite. Saturday dinner upstairs at the Steakhouse fits 60 plated, no problem. For the sleeping side, call (605) 838-7953 with your dates and headcount and we'll tell you exactly what we can hold and where the overflow goes.
Can families pay separately for their cabins?
Yes. Each cabin and RV site is its own reservation. You don't have to be the family banker — your siblings book their own and check in directly.
What about kids? Is the lake safe?
Long Lake's a designated no-wake zone — calm enough for toddlers off the dock. The fast water (Lake Madison) is a golf-cart ride away when the older kids want to ski. The Sea Store has snacks + sunscreen + bait. Every cabin and camper includes a golf cart so the kids can roam without crossing roads.
Can we have a Saturday cookout instead of the Steakhouse dinner?
Yes. Lakeside outdoor dining areas are available — bring your own grill setup or we'll cater from the Steakhouse kitchen. Some families do cookout Friday, plated dinner Saturday, brunch Sunday. Whichever rhythm works.
How far ahead do we need to book?
July and August reunions book 9–12 months out — the cabins go first. May, June, September, and October are 3–6 months. The Steakhouse upstairs reservation can lock in once your dates are set.
